Spain: Please save water during your stay

A drought emergency was declared in large parts of Spain. Tourism has also been affected by the exceptional drought, which has been going on for years. The cosmopolitan city of Barcelona has now begun to inform tourists about the drought and is asking them to save water wherever possible. In the countryside, reservoirs have already dried up and rivers have run out of water. And, the hot and dry summer is still to come.

However, every effort is being made to ensure that life goes on and that travelers can also enjoy a nice summer vacation. The first hotels already have their own small desalination plant. But, the situation also shows how important it is to use drinking water sparingly in the future and to re-plan and expand the entire water management system.

Some hotels are no longer allowed to fill their pools

The mid-term weather models are already showing the first signs of rainfall. Let’s hope that the situation will ease in the coming weeks. Together with the tourism association in Catalonia and German media, we have filmed a documentary about the situation.
