The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road

It’s that time again! The spectacular Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, with its 30 sweeping curves climbing above 2,470 meters (8,100 feet), is fully open once more. We experienced the drive in perfect weather – endless mountain vistas, snow-covered peaks, and pure summer freedom along 35 kilometers of panoramic road.

The route connects the Ötztal Valley in Tyrol (Austria) with the Passeier Valley in South Tyrol (Italy). Construction began in 1955, and by 1968, the road was fully completed. It’s a favorite among car drivers, motorcyclists, and road-trippers in search of alpine adventure.

A true highlight: Since 2015, the Top Mountain Crosspoint has combined a stunning motorcycle museum, a cable car station, and an architectural landmark right along the route. Scattered along the road are striking concrete cubes, “smuggler” stations, and panoramic platforms that tell stories about the region’s nature, history, and cross-border alpine culture.

We at WeatherStory documented the reopening under perfect conditions – and our coverage was seen by millions on national TV. Another powerful moment where nature, storytelling, and adventure come together.
